What

Social media strategy and management

How

The Young Lewisham Project [YLP] is an alternative provision based in Forest Hill in the borough of Lewisham, South East London.

They offer a range of supportive, alternative, vocational programmes to young people who are perhaps not reaching their full potential in mainstream education in order to help maximise their chances of becoming valued members of our ever-evolving society.

We came into contact with the Young Lewisham Project while shooting a commissioned documentary and conducting long-term youth engagement for Lewisham Council.

At the time, their social media didn't have dedicated management and so their public voice wasn't clear and their content and tone wasn't consistent.

The YLP began to consult with us about strengthening their presence within the local community on social media and providing training and management tools for organic, best practice content, posting and strategy.

Outcomes

We worked with the YLP to focus on their organisations fundamental purpose and goals in order to help determine exactly what they wanted from their social media output.

We then implemented a system that defined primary content subjects, process and strategy for scheduling and writing posts which included guidance on tone, style and format, compiled affiliate lists, and determined weekly content and targeting. This was designed for use by either internal or external staff to guide and drive the management of their channels. While this was being implemented, we supported with posting across their channels as well as building up their photography library.

Their online presence became stronger after consistent posting and their mission became more clear which significantly increased awareness and support which helped lead to a massive increase in funding and donations.

We then helped to identify and appoint a dedicated social media channels manager to work with us to continue to build awareness and engagement.

Engagement and goodwill within the local community continued to grow and this helped to put them in a position to become the Lewisham Mayor's charity of choice for 2022 which helped to further increase exposure, funding and donations.

We've continued to work with their social media manager to further systemise their processes and strategies in order to help target particular segments of their audience and a a result they've seen a massive spike in their reach and engagement within their local community and beyond.

Japanese high street fashion designer and manufacturer and one the biggest retailers in the world, UNIQLO, approached the YLP through us in order to organise a trip for YLP students to their global high street store at 311 Oxford as a way of tying in with the work that YLP students had been doing in the new digital media studio, designing logo and illustration concepts for printing onto t-shirts. This lead to a long term partnership and support including social media content partnerships.
